35th Annual Z99 Radiothon Raises $404,324 for babies needing Regina’s NICU
Regina, Sask. – Z99 hosts Cassity and Wheels hit the airwaves, sharing stories of heartbreak and triumph, to help save babies’ lives. Thanks to the unwavering support from so many generous people in southern Saskatchewan, the 35th annual Z99 Radiothon raised $404,324 for Hospitals of Regina Foundation in support of the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), located in the Rawlco Centre for Mother Baby Care at Regina General Hospital.
“It’s incredible watching the generosity of the Zed Family year after year. To think this fundraiser has been going on for thirty-five years now is incredible. It feels so good to be back in the mall and to get to see people face to face, to hear stories about how the NICU has impacted so many families. To play even a small part in the legacy that the Z99 Radiothon has become is really humbling. And again, we can’t say enough about this community, they show up each and every year for this fundraiser. We’re already looking forward to next year!” say Cassity and Wheels, on-air hosts for the Z99 Radiothon.
Charlene Huber Flahr, manager of the NICU, says Regina’s NICU is one of the best in western Canada. “We are very fortunate to have a community that is committed to making the best technology available to our medical teams for babies across southern Saskatchewan, when their lives depend on critical care.”
“The generosity of this community never ceases to amaze us and we see it, not only during and leading up to Radiothon, but throughout the year,” says Dino Sophocleous, president and CEO, Hospitals of Regina Foundation. “Because of this amazing community, and our dedicated partners Cassity, Wheels, and the Z99 team at Rawlco Radio, we are able to invest in the best pediatric care available, right here at home.”
Over the past 35 years, the Z99 Radiothon has raised over $10.8 million for the NICU. With outstanding community support, the Radiothon, through Hospitals of Regina Foundation, has provided our NICU with leading edge, life-saving technology that has enhanced the ability of our medical teams to care for fragile newborns.
The NICU is located in the Rawlco Centre for Mother Baby Care at the Regina General Hospital. Each year, 500 babies from 24 to 42 weeks old require care in the unit. The NICU, which also includes the special care nursery for babies who require less intensive care, has capacity for 29 babies. On average, 21 babies per day require care in the unit.
