On Thursday, March 3, Rawlco Radio, in partnership with the Ukrainian Canadian Congress, Saskatchewan branch (UCC) and the Canada-Ukraine Foundation (CUF), held a 12-hour Saskatchewan Day of Caring for Ukraine. We had a phenomenal response!
In just 12 hours, Saskatchewan people pulled together and donated $1,020,125 to provide humanitarian assistance to refugees and those in Ukraine.
The money will provide immediate aid to purchase food packages, medicine and shelter for agencies helping refugees and people in Ukraine.
“What an amazing day it has been. I am so touched by the generosity of the people of this province. It is incredible. I am at a loss for words,” said Danylo Puderak with the Ukrainian Canadian Congress of Saskatchewan.
From 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., we heard incredible stories from people hiding in bunkers or helping the displaced, and those back in Saskatchewan supporting friends and family.
“It is hard for us to think that in a matter of one week that people would be forced to uproot their lives and find whatever way they can – walking, cars, buses, packing trains – to flee across the border because of the bombings taking place and the troops in their cities,” Puderak said.
We’re sharing audio of some of the great, emotional moments from the day.
Thirteen-year-old Kateryna Grace and her sister, Natalia, shared a beautiful moment with us and performed a song they wrote for Ukrainians. Natalia was born in Ukraine, and Kateryna in Canada. They have family in Ukraine and are doing what they can to raise awareness for the Rawlco Radio Saskatchewan Day of Caring for Ukraine.
