Saturday saw people from around the city bring in their gently used bikes, tuned up by mechanics from Doug's Spoke n' Sport, to find new life in the hands of a child who might otherwise spend the summer without wheels.
Among those dropping off bikes were the Keays family of the city's College Park neighbourhood. They dropped off a brand new bike after getting people attending their daughter Macy's fourth birthday party to donate $5 apiece to the cause. Mom Candice said it was a good way to show her kids the value of helping others.
"We're fortunate enough, and the kids tend to get way too many presents as it is, so we thought, why not take out part of that and help someone in need," she said.
United Transfer and 1-800–GOT-JUNK have donated trucks and time to help get the bikes where they need to go.
